Laser Hair Removal

What methods of permanent hair reduction does East Coast Laser and Cosmetic Clinic Offer?

Many clinics can offer an IPL system for permanent hair reduction.

We ourselves have a medical grade IPL system Prowave 770 that is used on all skin types and excellent for larger areas.

However we pride ourselves on not only being a team of laser certified Nurses to care for you but we can offer the only laser hair removal system in Port Macquarie that is approved for permanent hair reduction, defined as a long term, stable reduction in the number of hairs regrowing after a treatment regime.

Our latest hair removal laser is an NdYag Cool glide 1064 nm laser, which is the longest wavelength available.

NdYag lasers are a relatively gentle and effective device for solving the problem of unwanted body hair. Hair on the underarms, face, top lip and chin, nose and ears, bikini, brazillian, bunny trail and other areas can be eradicated with relative ease, and after a few treatments, the results are considered permanently reduced.

The Cutera Coolglide 1064 nm laser is a beneficial and effective hair removal laser for patients of all skin types, from light to dark, including tanned patients.

As this system is more powerful and successful than an IPL system, treatments required will be considerably less. At the end of the day this is the most cost effective, efficient permanent hair removal system available to you in Port Macquarie.

More about our Cool glide system!

The Coolglide is a unique laser because it has a built-in cooling tip in the handpiece to cool the skin before and after the laser pulse. This protects the skin from a possible burn, so it is appropriate for all skin types.

As the name implies, the Coolglide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin.

Most areas require 3-6 treatments.

At each session, the Coolglide laser permanently disables the follicles when the hair is in its activegrowth stage. Those hair follicles are not going to grow back. However, the number of Coolglide treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors- Hair thickness, the area treated and your hairs growth cycle.

Not all hairs are actively growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases; active growth, regression and resting.

Since all lasers work by targeting the melanin in the hair follicle, it will not work on blonde, red, white or grey hair, as there is no pigment in those hair follicles.

What are the most popular areas for laser hair removal?

The most popular areas are female facial hair, under arm hair and back for men. Any area that you can shave can have laser hair removal treatments.

What is the difference between pulsed light and lasers?

Pulsed light is not a laser. While pulsed light is effective and can be used for other survices, our experience and training supports the more powerful laser treatment for hair removal. Pulsed light is generally less safe for darker skin colours. The Coolglide is safest for all skin types including very dark skin.

How long has laser technology been in use?

Lasers have been used in medicine for 20 years. Laser hair removal began 10 years ago, but hair removal laser technology has really progressed in the last five years.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser Hair removal is a faster, gentler way to remove unwanted hair, with great results. The laser applies precisely controlled pulses of energy, reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.

What are the risks of Laser hair removal?

Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn may occur in some patients. These effects typically last 24 hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. There is no recovery time as you can return to work or play immediately.

It is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight for a short period of time. Keeping the area moist with typically aloe Vera gel and wearing loose clothing promote healing. If a blister occurs staff need to be notified . Usually simple treatment such as moist wound healing ( pawpaw cream) and keeping area covered and clean is all that is required.

Is Laser hair removal painful?

Everyones pain tolerance is different. Treatment can be compared to a rubber band snap against the skin. Compared to waxing the treatment has much less discomfort. If needed, we can apply a topical numbing cream to the skin prior to treatment.

Treatment costs?

Treatments start from $55 up to $ 500 for full back or legs. Packages are available and multiple areas per treatment are offered at a discount.
